5 Ways for Cyclists to safely return to the road this spring

We may have been under the impression it would never happen, but spring has finally arrived. Rejoice! It’s exciting news for many, including cyclists. Fans of the pedal-driven devices can happily return to the road for their commute to work, the store, or wherever. Here are some ways that you can help keep yourself and others on the road safe this spring.
  1. Clean your bike off
Your bike has likely been collecting dust all winter, and may still be sporting some mud and other guck from the previous season. Make sure to give it a good clean and once over to remove any build up.
  2. Watch for loose gravel on the roads
Chances are the roads have not been fully cleaned of winter debris quite yet. Watch as your riding for loose gravel, rocks, and other obstacles that may cause you to crash.
  3. Check your brake system
Make sure the brakes are still in good shape by engaging the brake levers to ensure they are functioning. They should snap back after letting go.
  4. Check the tires
Pump up your tires to your preferred pressure level. Then wait 24 hours to ensure the air remains.
  5. Drop your bike
Literally pick up your bike a few inches off the ground and drop it. Don’t let it fall right over, of course. You are just testing to see if you hear any weird rattling or noises that may be a cause for concern. If there are you may have some more detective work to do, or want to take your bike into the shop.
